WAHA Wild World of Wheats Winner Announced

March 29, 2008 – 6:51 am

I’m not sure if this is posted up on the WAHA website yet (they are still putting together the real website), but I received an email about the announcement and its posted here. My “special wheat” received 3rd place, it is the recipe labeled “Hoppy Wheat #2″ in my recipe database. The recipe wasn’t what I planned on making, but I ended up changing it right at the beginning of brewing when I dumped a bunch of hops on the floor while measuring them out.

Here is the email from Mark Emiley about it:

I am extremely happy to announce the first ever Pyramid’s Wild World
of Wheat Winner: Kevin O’Keefe from the Boeing Everett Employees
Wine and Beer Makers Club (yes, my club’s arch nemisis) for his Pale
Wheat Ale. I was lucky enough to try this beer before it was
submitted and it is an refreshingly hoppy American-Wheat ale. It
will really provide a great pre-game beer as the Mariners go out to
play.

They are actually going to brew this beer on Monday so expect a very
quick release party within the next month. We’ll find a nice non-
game night to swamp the brewery and have a great time like we did
tonight for anyone who made it down. So, look for the details on
what should be a great release party coming up soon!

I’d like to thank everyone who participated and also announce the
runner up beers. John Marioni from the Cascade Brewers Guild placed
second with his Dunkelweizen and James Golovich took third place
with his “Special Wheat.”

All in all, this has been a very fun event and a great way for the
WAHA to help get its name out there. Keep up the great entries and
encourage everyone to squeeze in their last entries to the NHC to
get Washington’s name out there, and also get ready for the next two
big competitions, the CBG Exbeerience and the Puget Sound Pro-Am.

Have a great weekend everyone,
Mark
