NHC First Round
April 28, 2008 – 7:31 pmI received my scoresheets from the Northwest region of the 2008 NHC (National Homebrew Competition). I was really looking forward to seeing the sheets since this was the first time I’ve entered the NHC. Some of my scores were good, and some were just ok.
I did hear through the hopvine, that my ESB took second place so it will be going on to the 2nd round. If I get a chance in the next few days I might brew another 5 gallons of it, and have some BJCP judges evaluate both of them to pick whichever one might do the best.
Once all of the regions entries are in the first round winners will be announced at http://www.beertown.org/events/nhc/1st_round.html

I got my score sheets back as well. Did your entry numbers match the numbers on the score sheets? Mine did not, which has me wondering if I got the right sheets back. Congrats on placing second with your ESB. How did you find this out? One of the sheets returned to me has a 2 in the Place Awarded box. I’m curious if that means it might go on to the next round.

Thanks!
I talked with someone that was working at the judging up in alaska. I’m not sure how much info they are allowed to give out, I really don’t want to get anyone in trouble. He told me that my ESB placed.
Also he said that the entry numbers were changed between the online and actual judging so that explains your discrepancy, I’m not sure why this happened. I think I’m going to send an email off to someone at NHC to find out why this happened, if I find anything out I’ll post here.

I heard back quickly from Janis at NHC (Thanks Janis!) and she said “It may seem a bit convoluted, but the original numbers are replaced with new entry numbers when the entries are checked in at the shipping location.”

Wow, that was fast. Thanks for relaying that info. We submitted six beers, and the scores ranged from 38 to 26. They didn’t really care for our SHV (Pumpkin) Beer (too much spice). I’ve got my fingers crossed for the one (Wood Aged Old Ale) that placed 2nd in its catagory. Congrats again.
