Powerhouse Pro-Am

July 30, 2008 – 4:14 pm

Since I was out in the Seattle area brewing with Diamond Knot already, I was able to participate in an event put together by WAHA, Powerhouse Restaurant & Brewery, and Click Distributing.

This was a Pale ale challenge where 5 homebrewed pale ales and 5 commercial examples were judged by everyone present.

The commercial examples were:

  • Oskar Blues’ Dale’s Pale Ale
  • Elysian’s Loser Pale Ale
  • Powerhouse’s Pale Ale
  • Bear Republic’s XP Pale Ale
  • Hale’s Pale Ale

The homebrewers were:

  • James Golovich (me)
  • Darron Sullivan
  • Jim Brischke
  • Carey Peltz
  • Jim Trimble

I’m excited to say that my entry was picked as the winner, a close tie for 2nd place was Jim Brischke and Carey Peltz, and fourth was a pale ale from Elysian, Loser Pale.

I was able to take home a very nice etched growler as the award, but the best reward was meeting and talking with Tim Patty the brewer from Powerhouse, Jake the manager of Powerhouse, Mick from Click Distributing, and all the other homebrewers that were present.
